Market Street Elevated Stations, SEPTA
Transportation

The Market-Frankford Elevated Subway, stretching from 69th Street in Upper Darby, PA to Frankford in Northeast Philadelphia, is the most traveled line in the SEPTA system. Beyond its functionality, the Elevated and its stations have become a prominent part of the West Philadelphia cityscape. This project consists of the construction of five new stations to replace older demolished structures. The new Station Entrance Buildings at each station have become landmarks in each neighborhood. A clear glazed ironspot brick was specified to provide ease of maintenance while allowing natural brick tones and colors to show. Finish pieces are made of stainless steel or porcelain enamel metal for long wear and easy maintenance. Central waiting areas are located on both sides of the track, centered on the cross street, providing a sense of security and vistas into the neighborhoods.
