The Department of Nuclear Medicine’s new laboratory required built-in safety measures and advanced mechanical and electrical systems. In addition, it mandated the ability to respond to a variety of specific technical issues through close attention to specifications and detailing. To address the lab’s location above a complex of sensitive mainframe computers, monolithic flooring was installed in sheets and heat-welded together, a 2” curb was installed around all floor penetrations, and a flood alarm mechanism was installed to detect moisture on the floor before it reaches the computer room below.
