Substance Abuse Treatment Center, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley
Healthcare & Laboratories, Community

The Substance Abuse and Dependence Treatment Facility for the Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is located in a former candy factory in Camden, New Jersey. This adaptive reuse project includes women’s and men’s dormitories with a total of 72 beds, food service, treatment rooms, and administrative offices providing inpatient and outpatient services. The completed project provides a pleasant safe haven for its clients. Significant investigation and remediation of the existing structure allowed this abandoned factory to become a livable space providing economical and ecological saving for the client. Design challenges include creating
a warm and secure environment in a transitional neighborhood.

Completion: 2010
Location: Camden, NJ
22,000 Sq.Ft.
